Sensory Cooking

Students in S&C department are learning a range of skills in cooking sessions.  They have made foods such as pitta bread pizzas with a variety of toppings.  Students are learning basic cooking techniques and life skills such as chopping, spreading and washing up.

More importantly students are developing and practising a range of fine motor skills; learning to hold and handle different equipment and engaging with different textures- skills and tolerances which will benefit all areas of life.  Communication is another vital thread; following verbal, pictorial or written instructions, choosing, accepting and rejecting appropriately and expressing a preference.  Once the cooking is finished we sit down and enjoy what we have cooked.  We’re looking forward to starting biscuits next term!
